Treating Vicarious Trauma
This course addresses the treatment of patients who are experiencing compassion fatigue (or vicarious trauma). This condition is usually seen in people who have jobs as care providers; social workers, teachers, therapists, doctors, bodyworkers, or even acupuncturists! It can occur in providers who work with or treat individuals who have experienced traumatic situations, and are constantly exposed to the aftermath of the trauma events. Compassion fatigue can cause physical symptoms, as well mental and emotional difficulties for the care provider. We will discuss how to identify this condition and treatment protocols.
